Pressure Group, Let My Vote Count, says Ghana’s electoral systems can’t be made any better in future until the new Electoral Commission boss, Charlotte Osei, takes the initiative to restore confidence in the voters register.
The group’s convener, Davis Opoku Ansah on Si Me So on Kasapa 102.3 FM raised concerns over the validity of the register, describing it as a dangerous document to be used for the 2016 elections.
“There can’t be sensible and meaningful electoral reforms without looking at the voters register.”
He made reference to Togo, whose election was postponed by 10 days, after concerns were raised regarding the viability of the register.
Ansah told host Kweku Owusu Adjei that the country can’t afford the cost of experiencing post election violence, which forms good enough basis for a thorough cleansing of the register.
The new EC boss replaces the retired Dr Kwadwo Afari Gyan.
