Scribe of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has maintained that the country’s electoral register will continue to be fraught inconsistencies irrespective of measures put in place by the Electoral Commission (EC) to curb these incidents.

“The registration of minors, names of dead persons and aliens will continue to be on the register primarily because of low Level of data development in the country”, he revealed.

He intimates that the use of other forms of identification in registering first time voters in the country aside the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards are equally deemed incredible because they cannot equally guarantee the fairness of the register.

“We know non Ghanaians possessing drivers license, birth certificates and other documents that are supposed to be used as forms of identification to warrant a person to be enrolled on the country’s register”, he explained.

According to him, the defects suffered by the current register could be rectified over a period of time taking into account the level of stages the country’s electoral register has undergone since 1992.

“What is the guarantee that what the NPP is demanding if adhered to will make the system foolproof”, he asked.

He maintained that various stakeholders including the leaders of political parties in the country owe it a duty to ensure that they work in concert in coming out with a more credible register for the polls.
