Nana Toku, Western Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Sunday called on the people to massively exercise their franchise in the 2012 elections in order to give credence to the country’s democratic process.
He made the call at the launch of the campaign of Mr. Alfred Ekow Gyan, the NDC Parliamentary candidate for the Takoradi Constituency at Takoradi.
Nana Toku said it will be a plus for the country’s democracy if all registered voters exercise their franchise in the elections.
He urged the electorate to vote for the NDC to enable it to continue its development programmes to move the country forward.
Nana Toku said the NDC had always honoured its electoral promises and the people should not make the mistake and vote for any other party.
Mr. Gyan said he would work tirelessly to improve the living standards of the people in the constituency when given the nod.
He said the constituency needs a new and strong leadership that could mobilize human and material resources for development.
Mr. Gyan said he intends to involve the people actively in the planning, implementation and evaluation of projects and programmes.
Launching the campaign, Mr. Totobi Quakyi, a leading member of the NDC, asked members of the party in the constituency to support Mr. Gyan in his electioneering campaign.
He said Mr. Gyan could successfully carry out the responsibilities of a Member of Parliament and urged the people to vote for him.
Other speakers at the function include Mr. Paul Evans Aidoo, Western Regional Minister, Mr. Kobby Acheampong, Deputy Minister of the Interior, Mr. Solomon Nkansah, Deputy National Propaganda Secretary of the NDC and Mr. Kobina Pra Annan, former Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Chief Executive.
