Vote NDC for a better Ghana - Tackie-Komme

Accra, Nov 20, GNA - Mr. Jonathan Tackie-Komme, MP for Odododiodioo, has called on the electorate to vote for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to ensure a better country for future generationS. Addressing a rally of the NDC at Kokompe in Accra on Wednesday, the MP said he had been tried and tested as a youth organizer and an organizer of the party and as an Assemblyman and a Parliamentarian and stated that with his wealth of experience he would work harder to ensure the socio-economic advancement of the area if he was retained as the MP and the NDC formed the next government.

The MP, who is seeking re-election in the 2008 general election on the ticket of the NDC called for unity and commitment within the rank and file of the party in the constituency to retain the seat. Mr Tackie-Komme said he had used almost half of his GETFund, HIPC and Common Funds on the provision of school infrastructure. Notable among the projects were repairs of three classrooms at the Bishop Girl School, provision of a computer laboratory for the Holy Trinity Secondary School and the roofing, electric wiring and provision of ceiling fans at the Independence Avenue '2' Basic school. Other projects include the roofing and completion of a canteen at the Ayalolo Cluster of schools, assistance towards a two-storey building at the Bishop Mixed Junior Secondary School and financial assistance towards three classrooms at the Akwei Memorial School. He also financed the holding of evening classes for Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for all Basic school children in the area and a computer laboratory for the Accra Sempe '2'. Mr Tackie-Komme explained that his focus on education and other social projects stemmed from his belief that such programmes benefited a cross section of the people no matter their political, social or religious persuasion. Mr Daniel Okai, Constituency Chairman, stressed the importance of the third position of the party on the ballot paper for the December 7 elections.

He noted that for the third time the party was number three on the ballot and called on the members and supporters to take note of the position so that they did not waste their vote on the elections day. Mr Okai stressed the importance of the party's polling agents to its fortunes and urged them to be vigilant to ensure victory for the NDC Presidential Candidate, Professor John Evans Atta Mills and for the party to retain the seat.

Mr Elvis Cudjoe, an activist explained that as a social democratic party the NDC had the welfare of the people at heart unlike the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which was a property owning one for only the rich and well-to-do.

Mr Asomani Bimpong an Executive of the Ayalolo Branch of the NDC called on the NPP to tell the people where it had reached and moving forward when it had not created jobs for the youth. He said to move forward was good but it had to be in the right direction and stressed the need for what he called "positive change", saying, "Over speeding kills because most accidents are caused by wrong overtaking".

Mrs. Beatrice Lartey, a woman activist at the Kantamanto market accused the government of having eroded the country's value system as a result of economic hardship.

She said that even with a Ministry for Railways, the Railway Company had collapsed with workers pay getting into months unpaid. Madam Monica Okyere a trader also called for a change of government to end the hardship of the people who could not afford the basic things in life such as school fees, food and utility costs and described Professor Atta Mills as a man of peace.
