A youth group called Social Democrat Forum (SDF) in the Volta Region has called on voltarians not to allow the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) this time around to take them for granted.

In a statement signed and issued by the leadership of SDF in the persons of Manan Mustapha and Alhassan Issahaku and copied to Today yesterday in Accra, the group observed with grave concern that “it appears the fact that the Volta Region has traditionally been the bedrock of NDC it is being taken for granted by the Volta NDC.

The group noted in the statement that the NDC is complacent because it believes it can easily win.

According to the group, whilst the New Patriotic Party (NPP) propaganda machinery was seriously working, the Volta NDC has been hamstrung by a farrago of petty squabbles, factionalism and delusion.

"All the criticism of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama is receiving from the Volta Region lacks any objectivity or substance.

Their contention is that the NDC is being led by a northerner who, they consider, as unfortunate.

The statement asked: “if we are honest with ourselves, and inasmuch as we would prefer to sweep the issue under the carpet, the heritage of our party has long had a whiff of an anti-northern undercurrent?"

The statement indicated hatred for leaders of northern extraction by Voltarians did not start today; recounting that the son of Volta overthrew an elected President of the country who hailed from the North, Dr. Hila Limann, of the blessed memory.

It maintained that it was surprising that Voltarians were becoming fiercest critics of President Dramani Mahama.

It blamed the chiefs in the Volta Region for not helping the course of the NDC.
