Volta lake workers demand 15 months unpaid salaries

Workers of Volta Lake, a company contracted by the Government to clean the Albert Bosomtwe Sam Fishing Harbour in Sekondi have disclosed that they are yet to be paid their full salaries more than a year after their engagement

The disgruntled workers numbering over 30 claim the Manageress of the Company, one Dinah Mensah has been telling them stories whenever they demanded their salary arrears

One of the aggrieved workers Alfred Gordon fumes they were being owed 11 months arrears as at March 2016 but were paid 6 months and nothing has been given them up till date.

The workers who work about five hours daily ( 5am to 10ams Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson of Takoradi-based Sky Fm they receive a pittance of GHC100 a month as their salary

Notwithstanding the meager salary, he indicates that they have been doing the work since there is no option.

“We always travel from communities such as Kojokrom, Mpintsin, Ahenkofi, Nkroful, Sofokrom, Nkotompo, Ekuase, Essaman, Ngyiresia and other neighboring communities at their own expense”, he said

Alfred Gordon shared the harrowing experience of how they are finding it difficult to cater for themselves and their families because of non payments of the salaries

Meanwhile, the Manageress of the Company, Dinah Mensah has confirmed the nonpayment of the arrears but blamed it on delay from their Head Office in Accra.
