Volta Region to get 21 classroom blocks in 130 days

Ho, June 18, GNA - All processes for the construction of 21 classroom blocks for Senior High Schools in the Volta Region in readiness for progression of students to the fourth year have been concluded. The total cost of the six-unit classroom blocks is Ghc 51,113,840. Mr Joseph Amenowode, Regional Minister, made this known on Friday when he handed over the contract documents to the contracting companies, with the edict "to finish the job within specified 130 days or be blacklisted". He said the award of contracts was preceded by verification checks on the companies.

Mr Amenowode said the contractors must live up to expectation so that he could collect the keys to the classrooms on September 30 and hand over to the beneficiary schools.

He asked each contractor to at least employ 10 people, to place the aggregate employment expected from the project to 210. Mr Amenowode also urged the firms to put workers welfare, insurance and environmental issues high on their management systems. He said for a programme scheduled to take only three months to complete, no cost variations were expected. Mr Gabriel Nani, who represented Procurement and Project Management Consultancy, consultants on the job said the designs were simple for easy reading and completion. He said the region was divided into three zones for easy monitoring by a team of engineers to ensure that the jobs are executed to specification.
