Volta Region fix date for heroes

Volta Region has fixed 2014 as the tentative date to start celebrating its heroes and heroines.

Mr Francis Ganyaglo, Deputy Volta Regional Minister, announced this when he addressed a dinner in honour of Dr Geoffrey Reginald Kwasi Nyamuame, a Consultant Surgeon in Ho, on behalf of Joseph Nii Afotey-Agbo, Regional Minister.

He was responding to suggestions by Mr Rockson Kwesi Dogbegah, President, Ghana Contractors Association Council, and leader of the “Friends of Dr Nyamuame” who organized the event to celebrate and honour him.

In his welcome address, Mr Dogbegah said: “this gentleman served the Volta Region tirelessly with passion and dedication… before going on retirement in March, this year.”

Nii Afotey-Agbo has, therefore, charged the “Friends of Dr Nyamuame” to bring up proposals to the Regional Co-ordinating Council for discussion towards instituting the Heroes Day” in the region.

Dr Nyamuame went on compulsory retirement in March this year after spending all his 31 years of public service in the region.

Nii Afotey-Agbo said Dr Nyamuame’s high profile more than qualified him to seek “greener pastures” outside the country or elsewhere in the country, but he chose to endure many challenges and serve his people to the best of his abilities.

He said many medical doctors from the Volta region put up “flimsy excuses” to decline posting to the region, adding that it would be an ingratitude to see Dr Nyamuame “retire into oblivion.”
