Ibrahim Mahama is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Tamale after he was allegedly assaulted by the IGP’s Special Operations Team, popularly known as ‘Black Maria.’

According to a report by 3news.com on March 21, 2026, he described the incident as a violation of his rights.

“They broke into our bus, forced me to open my phone, and deleted the pictures. From the beginning to the end, everything was an assault,” he alleged.

Reacting to the development, Northern Regional Minister Ali Adolf Mboridiba assured that the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) would not condone such acts.

“We cannot tolerate this kind of lawlessness in the region, and anyone found culpable will be dealt with,” he stated.

He further noted that the regional police command is not aware of any ‘Black Maria’ team operating in the area, stressing that such actions would not be tolerated.

“Ibrahim Mahama is a diplomat, and an attack on him won’t be tolerated,” the minister indicated.

Police in the region have since commenced investigations into the incident.
