Vigilantism Dialogue: ‘NDC prepared to meet NPP’ - Kakra Essamuah

NDC’s Director of Communications, Kakra Essamuah claims his party is ready to attend the bi-partisan meeting which is expected to begin the process of ending political vigilantism in the country.

The President Nana Akufo-Addo during his State of the Nation address earlier this called on the two leading political parties, the NPP and NDC to meet as soon as possible to find a lasting solution to the worrying trend of vigilantism in the country. This call by the President was necessitated after violence broke out during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election in January this year.

Speaking with www.ghanaweb.com, at a forum held by the Media General on Wednesday, March 13, to discuss key solutions to curb the menace of political vigilantism in the country, Kakra Essamuah explained that the NDC would ensure objectives from the much anticipated dialogue are upheld to the later.

He also accused the NPP of acting in bad faith and lacking the will to disband party vigilantes affiliated to their party. ‘’We as NDC have agreed to go to the dialogue as proposed by the president, anytime that we are invited formally. When we go there we would put whatever we have on the table. We are just waiting for the invitation that come let’s talk’’. He asserted

Citing the recent violence that marred the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency by-election due to activities of supposed politically-aligned vigilante groups, President Akufo-Addo promised to use legislation to stop the phenomenon of political vigilantism if the two parties failed to stop it voluntarily.



The president while delivering the 2019 State of the Nation Address instructed the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) which he belongs to, to extend an invitation to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to discuss how to disband their respective vigilante groups.
