Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Peter Mac Manu, has stated that a recent video of former President John Agyekum Kufuor stating that he has been neglected by the party may have been AI-generated.

His remark follows a viral video, which showed former President Kufuor lamenting over poor treatment by the NPP during an interaction with flagbearer hopeful Dr Bryan Acheampong.

“I don’t understand why my own party, the NPP, has sidelined me,” Kufuor decried.

However, responding to the comment in an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb at the party’s 2025 National Annual Delegates Conference held on Saturday, July 19, Mac Manu dismissed the claims as untrue and questioned the authenticity of the footage.

He explained that he had recently visited former President Kufuor to discuss party matters, stressing that the former president has not been sidelined.

“It's not true. Absolutely not. Why do I say that? Well, I was with President Kufuor a few weeks ago when we were inaugurating the Patriotic Institute. Later, at the National Council meeting, lawyer Frank Davis debunked those claims. He stated that he and his team visited President Kufuor at home and spent about three hours with him,” he said.

When asked about the video showing him seated with Dr Bryan Acheampong, Peter Mac Manu stated that he is familiar with AI technology and can easily identify when something is fake.

He cautioned against blindly trusting everything found online, emphasising that in today's digital age, a lot of the content circulated is fabricated or misleading.

“I'm an AI person. I know what’s fake. Let me tell you something as a journalist: don’t believe everything you see. Take that from me. Don’t accept information wholesale, hook, line, and sinker. Not in this day and age, when fake content is spreading everywhere,” he said.

He also reaffirmed that the party truly honours and respects the former president, saying, “After all, President Kufuor is the father of the party. Out of respect, the party sent four people to visit him in London to explain matters to him. We truly honour and treasure him."
