A former legal advisor to former President John Agyekum Kufuor, Victoria Bright, has urged the suspended Chief Justice, Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo, to formally report any threats against her to the police.
Speaking on JoyNews AM on Monday, June 30, 2025, Victoria Bright emphasised that if the Chief Justice has indeed received threats, she must take the necessary official action by filing a report with law enforcement.
“If the Suspended CJ truly was threatened, then she must file a report to the police for the necessary thing to be done. As a citizen, she has the right to protection,” Bright stated.
Suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo has publicly alleged that she has received multiple threats coercing her to resign or face harm.
These threats reportedly followed petitions filed for her removal from office.
In her first public statement since her suspension on June 25, 2025, Justice Torkornoo claimed that certain individuals have attempted to pressure her into voluntarily resigning or retiring by threatening her with personal harm.
Justice Torkornoo was suspended on April 22, 2025, following a prima facie determination made by President John Dramani Mahama in consultation with the Council of State.
