Member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Legal and Communication Team, Victor Adawudu, has called for a renewed and professional investigation into the murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale.

His call follows the discontinuation of the case by the Attorney General’s Office.

The Madina District Court on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 discharged the accused, Daniel Owusu Koranteng, who had been charged with murder and abetment of murder in connection with the killing of the late investigative journalist.

The move came after the Attorney General advised that the case be dropped due to insufficient evidence.

Lead suspect in Ahmed-Hussein Suale's murder case discharged

Ahmed Suale, a key member of the Tiger Eye PI investigative team, was shot dead by unknown assailants in January 2019, an incident that sparked national outrage and international condemnation.

Despite widespread calls for justice, progress on the case has remained slow, with few leads and limited evidence linking suspects to the crime.

In a citinewsroom.com report on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, Adawudu urged investigators to ‘go back to the drawing board’ and conduct a more professional, evidence-based investigation.

“For me, this should be an eye-opener. This is something we should look at and go back to the drawing board and look at it and give a specimen. We should be professionals. We must improve the way we do investigations. This case should speak to the conscience of the investigators and authorities. I want the investigators to speak the truth,” he stated.

He lamented that investigative efforts in Ghana are often hampered by inadequate resources and weak institutional support, leading to what he described as 'armchair investigations'.

According to him, officers are often unable to travel or gather sufficient evidence because the system doesn’t have money for them to do so.

“I think some of the people at the top make things difficult for the younger ones. And some of the investigators, too, the system doesn’t have money for them to travel and do all these investigations. And they do armchair investigations. If the system is being researched and we’re being bold for authorities to speak the truth. Let us be bold to speak truth to authority. We need to come to the logical conclusion of the killing of Ahmed Suale so that it never happens again,” he said.

Adawudu, however, commended the Attorney General for the decision to discontinue the case, describing it as a bold and responsible move given the weak evidence available.

“I commend the Attorney General for being bold. If the evidence that has been brought cannot convict, then continuing the case would be a waste. If new facts emerge, the suspect can always be brought back,” he indicated.

He reiterated the need for transparency and professionalism in the pursuit of justice for the late Ahmed Suale, stressing that solving the case would restore public confidence in Ghana’s justice system and ensure such tragedies do not recur.
