A former legal advisor to ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor, Vicky Bright, has criticised the current political climate, suggesting hypocrisy and duplicity among some political figures.
She argued that the rule of law should be upheld consistently, regardless of which party is in power.
“The rule of law does not bend based on which party holds power,” she indicated during an interview on JoyNews AM Show on May 5, 2025.
According to Vicky, Ghana's democracy is being undermined by selective outrage and partisan responses to issues of national importance.
“Authenticity and consistency should guide our political actions,” she stated.
She added that the selective approach to justice and governance not only weakens public trust in institutions, but also erodes the foundations of Ghana’s democracy.
“This hypocrisy and duplicity undermines the very foundations of our democracy. We’ve seen this before — selective outrage does not build a better Ghana,” Vicky emphasised.
Vicky Bright also stated that during the tenure of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, similar actions to those currently being criticised were met with silence by some political figures and commentators.
“When Nana Addo did similar things, many chose silence. Today, those same voices cry foul. This is a troubling trend of double standards,” she added.
