Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang is set to visit the Ministry of Transport to engage the sector’s leadership over persistent public transport challenges in the Greater Accra Region on Friday, January 16, 2026.

The engagement will focus on the acute shortage of commercial vehicles, long waiting times, and rising transport fares, particularly during morning and evening peak hours.

These challenges have disrupted daily commuting and heightened public concern across the capital.

Discussions are expected to be focused on measures currently being implemented by the Ministry of Transport and additional interventions being considered to restore vehicle availability and ease pressure on commuters.

The Vice President’s visit comes amid worsening conditions on major routes in Accra, where an insufficient number of buses has severely affected movement.

Commuters are often left stranded during peak hours, with bus stations crowded by large numbers of passengers and little or no transport available.

The situation has also led to increased demand for transport, with some operators taking undue advantage by charging unapproved fares.
