Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has presented assorted food items, drinks and cash donations to Osu Children’s Home, Teshie Orphanage and Weija Leprosarium in the Greater Accra Region as part of the Christmas festivities.
The items included bags of rice, assorted drinks and GHc10, 000 each to the three institutions.
Vice President Bawumia, who was accompanied by Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, the Information Minister and other government officials, first visited the Osu Children’s Home followed by the Teshie Orphanage and Weija Leprosarium.
He interacted with the children and the cured lepers.
Vice President pledged to be a Patron of the Weija Leprosarium and offer them the necessary support.
He asked the families of the cured lepers and the society to avoid stigmatising them and rather show them affection.
He entreated individuals and corporate entities in the country to contribute their widow’s mites to supporting the less privileged society in order to attract God’s blessing.
Reverend Father Campbell, a Patron of the Weija Leprosarium, noted that stigmatisation was one of the major challenges facing the cured lepers, and urged the media to help sensitise the public on the need to embrace and integrate them into the society.
