Accra, July 27, GNA- Vice President John Dramani Mahama on Monday described Senegal as one of the most successful democratic countries in the African continent.
"Although Ghana has been praised in several quarters for our successful general elections, I want to say here that Senegal has also been able to hold several general elections without problems and must be commended for that."
The Vice President gave this commendation when Mr. Balla Mandaw Dia, out-going Senegalese Ambassador to Ghana, called on him at the Castle, Osu, to bid him good bye after a duty tour.
He said Ghana had over the years admired Senegal in not only their democratic credentials, but in her breakthrough in Agricultural activities.
"Ghana admires Senegal's breakthrough in abundance and food security which they used prudent agricultural programmes to achieve adequate production to feed the people over the years."
Vice President Mahama also described the out-going Ambassador as 'a true Pan- Africanist" and wished him well in his future political endeavours.
Mr. Dia called for multi-sectoral collaboration among African countries to make them self-reliant to rid the continent of poverty, hunger and diseases.
He praised Ghanaians for the political maturity exhibited in both Political gatherings and media talk shows adding, "I hope other African countries will learn from the political tolerance that Ghana is experiencing now."
