The Attorney General of the United States, Pamela Bodi, has announced that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, have been indicted by a US court on several charges.
She stated that the New York District Court charged Maduro with cocaine importation conspiracy, possession of machine guns, narco‑terrorism conspiracy, and other offenses.
It was noted that these actions affected the United States in many ways; hence, they are being tried in the country to face justice.
What is happening in Venezuela and why has Trump arrested its president?
“Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, have been indicted in the Southern District of New York. Nicolás Maduro has been charged with Narco‑Terrorism Conspiracy, Cocaine Importation Conspiracy, Possession of Machine Guns and Destructive Devices, and Conspiracy to Possess Machine Guns and Destructive Devices against the United States,” she posted on X on January 4, 2025.
Pam Bodi expressed her gratitude to the US military for the arrest and promised Americans that the president and his wife will face justice.
“They will soon face the full wrath of American justice on American soil in American courts. On behalf of the entire US DOJ, I would like to thank President Trump for having the courage to demand accountability on behalf of the American people, and a huge thank you to our brave military who conducted the incredible and highly successful mission to capture these two alleged international narco‑traffickers,” she added.
This comes after US President Donald Trump announced that the military had undertaken successful strikes in Venezuela that led to the arrest of Maduro and his wife.
