Chicago Fire coach Veljko Paunovic says Ghanaian forward David Accam is vital for his team's progress after scoring the consolation in their 3-2 defeat to Sporing Kansas City on Saturday.

The 26-year-old has been linked with a move to French Ligue 1 side Guingamp in the ongoing summer transfer window.

The former Helsinborg hitman expressed his frustration with the Serbian trainer last week following his decision to snub him for the MLS All-Star Team that will be facing Spanish giants Real Madrid, which has fueled reports that he's keen to depart from the club.

However, Paunovic says he's counting on the Ghanaian after he came off the bench to score a consolation goal for the side in their 3-2 loss at Sporting Kansas City on Saturday.

“David [Accam] obviously scored the goal, it’s an important goal,” he told reporters after the game.

“It was a great cross by Patrick Doody, it was a good assist and yeah he had the opportunity to tie the game. Another great build up and great cross from [Matt] Polster. Yeah of course, David is important for our team," he added.

Accam has scored 12 times and provided seven assists the season so far but has not started in the last 6 games for the club.
