Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has urged members of the newly sworn-in Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy to reflect deeply on what the economy truly means to ordinary Ghanaians.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the advisory group on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, she stressed that the economy must not remain an abstract concept discussed only in policy circles but must translate into tangible improvements in the daily lives of citizens.

According to the vice president, a vibrant economy should guarantee stability for teachers in classrooms and nurses on night duty; fair prices and reliable markets for farmers; and predictable costs and access to credit for traders and small business owners.
“As a lifelong teacher myself, I would like to respectfully leave my esteemed colleagues and myself with our first piece of homework. That is, for us to constantly reflect on what the term ‘the economy’ should mean to our fellow citizens.
What President Mahama told the new Economic Advisory Group
“Beyond an abstract concept, it should mean many things, including the following: stability for the teacher in the classroom and the nurse on night duty; fair prices and reliable markets for the farmer; predictable costs and access to credit for the trader and small business owner,” she noted.
President John Dramani Mahama, also present at the event, inaugurated the 12-member Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy (PAGE), constituted to provide strategic counsel on the nation’s economic recovery and growth agenda.
Membership of the group include Vice President Prof Opoku-Agyemang, the former Minister of Finance, Dr Kwabena Duffuor; and economist Kwame Pianim, among other distinguished members.
