VRA workers call for circumspection

Accra, July, 24, GNA - The leadership of the staff Groups of the Volta River Authority (VRA) on Thursday appealed to the public to be circumspect in their comments on the crisis in the Authority in order not to worsen the already fragile industrial atmosphere.

"The Staff Groups of VRA wish to assure all and sundry that we are capable of responding to all the issues that are being raised. However, we are heeding the President's fatherly advice," it said in a statement signed by Mrs Marian Antwi, Chairperson of the Senior Staff Association and Mr George Okine, Divisional Chairman of the Public Service Workers Union.

The statement said the Staff Groups have noted with concern publications and commentaries in the media about the crisis.

It said on July 4, the Leadership of the Staff Groups and Management met President John Agyekum Kufuor, who advised the parties involved in the impasse not to go to press until he takes a final decision on the matter.

However, recent comments and publications in the media undermined the understanding reached with the President, the statement said.
