“I am deeply saddened by the tragic stampede that occurred during yesterday’s military screening exercise. My heartfelt condolences go to the families who have lost their loved ones, and I wish the injured a swift and full recovery,” she shared on her X account on Thursday, November 13, 2025.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang called on Ghanaians to offer prayers to comfort the bereaved families. She further urged unity and collective support as the security agencies address the incident.

“At this time, I urge all of us to keep the affected families in our thoughts and prayers. As the relevant state agencies respond to the incident, let us stand together and support one another through this difficult moment.”

The stampede reportedly broke out at the El-Wak Stadium during the recruitment process due to overcrowding.

The situation escalated after military officials instructed some applicants to go home and return the following day. However, the crowd became uncontrollable, leading to chaos that resulted in the loss of six lives.

Authorities have confirmed that all six deceased were female applicants. According to the Ghana Armed Forces, five individuals are currently receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the 37 Military Hospital, while twelve others remain in critical condition.
