VP Lauds Nanumbas

The Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama has lauded the chiefs and people of the Nanumba District of the Northern Region for the peaceful and mature manner in which they conducted themselves during the by-election on Thursday.

He noted that in spite of the tension at the initial stages of the poll, everything went on peacefully and gave credit to the chiefs and people for their commitment to democracy.

In a statement issued from the office of the Vice-President, Alhaji Mahama also congratulated all the political parties for helping to deepen the country's democracy through their competitive participation in the by-election.

He prayed that the NPP would be magnanimous in its victory and extend a hand of co-operation and reconciliation to the losing parties, "since this is what democracy is all about".

He assured the people of the government's determination to develop northern Ghana and to maintain peace in the area.
