VGMA@20: Ghanaians react to gun saga

Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy

The 20th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) nearly turned bloody and was marred in the early hours of Sunday, 19 May 2019 when fans of dancehall artiste Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale engaged in near fisticuffs over an award.

The confusion happened when Stonebwoy was announced as the Reggae Dancehall Artiste of the Year.

Reports say an unhappy Shatta Wale and his fans got off their seat and made their way to the podium but were stopped by Stonebwoy and his fans which led to a brawl.

Stonebwoy reportedly pulled a gun on stage while the security present sprayed pepper in the auditorium in an attempt to prevent a full-blown fight. Patrons had to run out of the auditorium as they could not breathe due to the pepper.

The show continued after a long break.

You win an award, your competitor walks upstage to congratulate you and you're upset?

When it happened at the Ayawaso bye-election, we politicized and covered the culprits up. It’s repeated itself, and this time not on a political platform but at the VGMA. When your leaders allow offenders to go unpunished, this is the result. SM4LYF is a threat to society and a bad influence.
