Tarkwa, June 23, GNA - Officials of Value Added Tax (VAT) have locked up four companies in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality for their failure in submitting VAT returns. The companies are Getensaps Civil and Mechanical Engineering which owes
16,639.39 Ghana cedis, Goodness and Mercy Mnterprise, dealers in general goods,safety equipment, stationery and car rentals owes 3,854.50 Ghana cedis, Filand Company, 60,402.47 Ghana cedis and Oskon Enterprise, 87,804. 44 Ghana cedis.
According to VAT service, some of the amounts date back to 2007. The head of VAT Tarkwa office, Mr. Samuel Ackah Blay, told journalists that VAT would confiscate the assets of a debtor where full payment is not made nor satisfactory arrangement to pay is made. In addition, he said, goods confiscated from the debtor may be kept at the cost of the owner for 14 days after which the goods may be auctioned to settle the debt. 2
