VALCO Helps In Road Safety Campaign

Tema (GAR), July 8, The Volta Aluminium Company (VALCO) today presented a cheque for six million cedis to the Road Safety Youth Club of Ghana, an NGO, towards the publication of a new book on road safety. The book, entitled ''Practical Safety Guide'', was written by Mr Eddy Awah, founder and national organiser of the club, which has more than 30 branches in schools throughout the country. According to Mr Awah, the book is the first in a series of safety educational resource materials that the club is developing to facilitate its road safety child education programme. Presenting the cheque, Mr Neil Darlington, Managing Director of VALCO said his company, which has a world class safety system and promotes safety awareness, is glad to sponsor the publication. This is because VALCO believes that in order to drive safely in Ghana, one must have good equipment, good driving skills and drive defensively. He called on the National Road Safety Committee and the club to work together to give people, particularly children, a practical knowledge in safety. Mr Darlington said it is important for children to grow up with the knowledge and attitude to improve safety on roads, in homes, industry and Ghana in general.
