Use energy for development, not conflict - Osei-Wusu

Sankana, April 10, GNA - Mr David Osei-Wusu, Upper West Regional Minister, has advised the youth to redirect their energies towards development and not waste them on ethnic conflicts and litigation.

Mr Osei-Wusu gave the advice when he addressed the chiefs and people of Sankana in the Upper West Region during their Kalibi festival on Saturday. The festival, which was abandoned 12 years ago but was revived this year, is celebrated to commemorate warriors who fought and chased away slave raiders during the famous Sankana Battle in 1896.

It is also to create a platform for the youth of the area to take stock of their past performances and plan towards the development of the community. Mr Osei-Wusu said ethnic conflict and litigation are a drawback to development and must be condemned everywhere.

He assured the chief and people that plans were under way to extend electricity, potable water and other social amenities to the area. Mr Zinenuba Lankono, Chairman of the Sankana Youth and Development Association, appealed to the government to develop a dam at Sankana for farming purposes.

He also called for the upgrading of the Sankana health post to a health centre to cater for the growing population of the area. Mr Samuel Suglo, Nadowli District Chief Executive, urged the chiefs and opinion leaders of the area to mobilise the people for development.
