Upper West chiefs applaud government for implementing poverty alleviation programmes

Naa Sadiki Galla II, The Chief of Tanina in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region has applauded government for implementing social intervention programmes to alleviate poverty in the country.

Addressing Muslims as part of the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s Ramadan tour to the Upper West Region, Naa Galla said 23 students from Tanina community were enrolled into the Free SHS programme in 2017 while 27 students were enrolled in 2018 academic years, which has drastically reduced the financial burden on parents.

He said Tanina community has received three mechanized boreholes from government under the one million per constituency policy, while the Wa West District Assembly has constructed a mechanized borehole to deal with water crisis in the community.

“Our community has been hooked into the national grid which was stalled for many years,” he said.

He also said government has provided a storeroom under the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) programme, to reduce the cost of fertilizer transportation from the district capital to the community.

He also said his people were enjoying the NPP policy programme of Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP), while government has provided a school block to solve infrastructure problem in their JHS.

He called for security protection to deal with armed robbery, which has bedeviled the community and its environs due to poor road network.

He appealed to government to upgrade their CHPS compound into a health center to promote health and also provide them with dam to promote dry season farming.

On his part, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President of Ghana said the Philosophy and vision of the Nana Akufo-Addo led government was transformational leadership through inclusiveness by introducing the flagship programmes to benefit every Ghanaian without discrimination.

He said government for the first time in history has established created the Ministry of Inner City and Zongo Development with the establishment of the Zongo Development Fund to develop all the 180 Zongo communities in the country.

He added that government has recruited about 3,000 Islamic Instructors throughout the country to teacher Muslim students and was considering the establishment of Islamic training colleges throughout the country.

He said government has secured about 275 ambulances for each constituency under the One Ambulance per Constituency promise and the ambulances would arrive in Ghana by August this year to improve health delivery.

He said government has secured GHS352507.00 for the award of contracts to the Tanina-Polee road of 3.5 kilometers, Polee-Nakor road of 3.2 kilometers, Poyentanga-Jabob-Buli of 12 kilometers and work was going to kick start within few weeks.

The Vice President handed over 40 bags of rice, 10 boxes of sugar, 10 boxes of oil GHS20,000.00 to support the completion of Mosque, GHS2,000.00 to Chiefs and GHS1,000.00 for women.

The Vice President was accompanied by Members of Parliament, Minister of State at the Presidency and Dr Hafiz Bin-Salih, Upper West Regional Minister among other dignitaries.
