Upper East completes street naming project

Alhaji Limuna Mohammed-Muniru, the Northern Regional Minister, has said the street naming exercise had the greatest potential to increase assemblies’ internally generated revenue.

Alhaji Mohammed-Muniru, who has temporary responsibility for the Upper East Region, said this after inspecting street naming projects in the Upper East Region executed by the 13 Municipal and District assemblies.

He told the Municipal and District Chief executives that though they had beaten the deadline for the completion of the exercise they should still go to the drawing board to address challenges they faced.

Alhaji Mohammed-Muniru said apart from helping to increase the revenue base of the Assemblies, it would help direct potential investors particularly foreign investors into the country.

He commended the Kassena-Nankana Municipal and the Bongo District assemblies for distinguishing themselves in the exercise and called on the other assemblies to learn from them.

Among the areas he visited were Kassena-Nankana Municipal and the Bawku Municipal assemblies, Kassena-Nankana West, Garu-Tempane and the Bawku West districts.

The streets were named after prominent persons who had contributed significantly to the development of the districts and the Region.
