Upper East Region reacts to budget

Bolgatanga, Nov. 25, GNA - Some people in the Upper East Region have said they were not happy with the budget because it did reflect the "Better Ghana"agenda the government promised.

They said they wanted to see more in areas such as education, health, and agriculture.

Mr Gregory Abasang, a businessman with Gejim Company, told the GNA in an interview on Wednesday that the budget had not favoured the private sector because there were many taxes and this would discourage the sector from creating jobs.

Mr Abasang said this would cause unemployment and suggested that the budget should have come out with a flexible taxation system for the private sector to enable it to create more jobs. Mr Pascal Amoak, a teacher at the Kongo Junior High School near Bolgatanga, said his expectations were not met since the budget had not indicated how it was going to fill his pocket. He said the budget should have been one that would have a direct positive effect on the average Ghanaian. Mr Charles Mba, an assembly man for the Bensure-Nyogbare electoral area in the Talensi-Nabdam District, said education was not given much attention and that more attention should have been paid to education infrastructure and the training of teachers. At Navrongo in the Kassena-Nankana East District most of the youth said they were expecting to hear more on the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority but to their dismay nothing much was said.
