An aspirant of the Asokwa constituency in the Ashanti region Maxwell Kofi Jumah, who was arrested a few hours ago for destroying the voters' register, has been granted bail.

The Ashanti regional chairman of the NPP Bernard Antwi Bosiako popularly known as 'Chairman Wontumi' intervened on his behalf before the police could release him.

Jumah, a former mayor of Kumasi in the Ashanti region, was arrested for tearing the voters' register apart.

He allegedly mounted the podium "and began tearing the register into pieces," Starr News' PK Nickson reported from the grounds.

"It was quite chaotic. The delegates have rushed out of the hall. I suspect that it is going to be suspended."

According to Nickson, Jumah suspected that the register has been altered in favour of his contender Patricia Appiagyei.

Voting is currently ongoing in over 200 constituencies across Ghana as the main opposition NPP selects its parliamentary candidates.
