In celebration of International Women’s Day 2025 and its resonant theme, "Accelerate Action," YesSheCan International, a leading NGO dedicated to women’s empowerment, partnered with the University of Ghana (UG)-Volta Hall to spotlight the transformative power of women in entrepreneurship.
Reiterating the global call for rapid advancements in gender equality, the 2nd edition of the YesSheCan International seminar was held under the theme: "Unlocking Women’s Potential Through Entrepreneurship, Effective Communication, and Negotiation."
The event aimed to recognize and implement strategies that drive women's progress in employment, communication, and networking.
Delivering the opening remarks, Mary Anane Awuku, the Founder of YesSheCan International and Executive Director of Facility Pro and Brain Hills International School, called for a collective commitment to accelerating the growth of young women.
She emphasized the need for improved market access, financial inclusion, and institutional support.
Speaking at the Cedi Conference Center, Economics Department, UG Legon, Awuku underscored the importance of empowering young women in business, stating:
"At YesSheCan, we believe that every woman deserves the opportunity to reach her full potential.
"By unlocking your potential, you will not only transform your own lives but also become catalysts for positive change in your communities, industries, and the world at large."
Delivering the keynote address, Rabi Brimah, Founder and CEO of Inspiring Lives Consult, acknowledged that women entrepreneurs contribute significantly to Ghana’s economy.
However, she noted that limited access to sustainable markets remains a major challenge.
She urged stakeholders to intensify efforts in fostering an inclusive society, where women and girls have equal opportunities and representation.
"Let’s unite to accelerate progress and work together to build a fair and just society for all," noted Professor Rosina.
During a panel discussion, Harriet Dodoo, Dr. Racheal Hansen, and Gifty Boatemaa Annan took the opportunity to encourage women and girls to remain determined and confident in their abilities.
They praised the attendees for their courage and strength, describing them as a source of inspiration and a testament to the potential of women in shaping the future.
"We are grateful to see young women rise to the top of their potential. We hope that the knowledge you have acquired here will empower you with the tools and strategies necessary to overcome obstacles, shatter glass ceilings, and achieve your dreams," one of the panelists said.
Reflecting on their participation, some students expressed enthusiasm about being part of such an inspiring seminar. They noted that the renowned speakers helped broaden their knowledge of how to unearth their full potential for a better future.
This International Women’s Day, Ghana is sending a clear message: Accelerating action for women entrepreneurs means accelerating action for a stronger, more equitable, and environmentally conscious nation.
