University of Ghana honours first female graduate

Accra, Jan. 16, GNA - The University of Ghana has named one of the four new halls after its first female graduate, Mrs Elizabeth Frances Sey.

A statement issued in Accra by Mrs Stella A. Amoa, Director of Public Affairs said Mrs Sey (Nee Biney) was enrolled in the then University College of the Gold Coast in 1950 and graduated in 1953, after which she was appointed District Education Officer for Sekondi. It said the formal naming ceremony was scheduled for Thursday, January 19 at the forecourt of the hall.

On July 8, last year, the University inaugurated three newly constructed students' halls of residence to increase its intake. The project funded by a consortium of seven banks led by the management of CAL Bank , was to build four four-storey students' halls to accommodate about 7,000 students'
