University of Ghana appoints new Registrar

The University Council has appointed Joseph Maafo Budu as the new Registrar of the University of Ghana. He assumes office on August 1, 2009. Mr. Budu is currently the College Registrar of the College of Agriculture and Consumer Sciences. He is a product of Mfantsipim School in Cape Coast and the University of Ghana where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economies and Statistics in 1976.

He has a Master of Arts Degree in Educational Administration and Educational Statistics from the Institute of Education, University of London where he graduated in 1986. A statement issued by the Acting Director of Public Affairs, Mrs. Stella Amoah said Mr. Budu was employed first as a Junior Assistant Registrar of the University in 1977 and was promoted to Assistant Registrar in 1979, then to Senior Assistant Registrar in 1987 and Deputy Registrar in 1995.

It said Mr. Budu has a wealth of experience in University Administration, having worked in the Academic Affairs Section, Personnel Section and the Planning Section.

The statement added that Mr. Budu has made tremendous contributions to the development of the University’s management information systems and ICT, which is his key interest, and played a key role in the development of staff and student records.
