University of Ghana and ABL enter partnership

Accra, Oct. 4, - The University of Ghana (UG) and Accra Brewery Limited (ABL) have established a long-term developmental partnership to promote and enhance the training of students of the Food Process Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering Sciences. A statement in Accra jointly signed by Stella A Asamoah, Acting Director of Public Affairs, UG and Samori Gambrah, Communications Manager, ABL, said the Brewery would offer seminars, guest lectures, case studies and departmental sponsorships.

The purpose is to enhance the business acumen of Ghana's future industrial leaders by blending both academic engineering skills alongside hands on field experience at one of Ghana's leading manufacturing companies.

The partnership, the statement said, was designed to facilitate the development of a genuine and mutually beneficial long-term partnership between UG and ABL in the training of Food Process Engineers for Ghanaian industries.

It would offer the development of an annual six-week summer internship within ABL for level 400 students of the Department of Food Process Engineering and the development of a seminar programme within the level 400 Food Process Engineering course, with some resource persons drawn from the ABL.

Others include the provision of case studies from ABL and the delivery of guest lectures and seminars at the University of Ghana by key technical personnel of ABL, to enrich the learning experience of students.

The provision of research projects, problems or other work of interest to ABL on which staff and students of UGL would work together with staff of ABL and the exploration of opportunities for direct sponsorship by ABL of initiatives and facilities that would enhance the quality of training provided to graduate and undergraduate Food Process Engineering students at UG.

In addition, UG and ABL will cooperate in the development of the curriculum of the Department to ensure that graduates meet the needs of the brewing and beverage industry in Ghana.
