University of Ghana Dismisses 14 students

The University of Ghana has dismissed 13 students for making fraudulent declarations on their application forms and another for cheating at examinations.

Two others have been banned from writing the university's examinations for two academic years for their involvement in examination malpractice and two more were reprimanded for failing to submit answer scripts after writing their examinations.

"The University of Ghana Campus Update," a newsletter of the University, said the 13 students made fraudulent declarations on their application forms to gain admission into the University for 2000/2001 academic year.

They are Amable Kenneth, Mutawaki Rawbil, Osei Boateng Bright, Ofori-Boachie Randa and Djisam Famous, all of level 200.

The others are Amedzie Paul Komla, Abanga Janet, Teweneboah-Koduah S. Omane, Hunds Edwin, Kodua Alexander Gyekye, Turkson Bright, Kumal Aryee Mudasiru and Larkai Joseph Otoo all of level 100.

Mrs Damiela Wendy Otchere-Boateng, a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) Level 600 student has also been expelled from the University following her attempt to gain unfair advantage during the Second Semester Examinations of the 1999/2000 academic year.

Two Bachelor of Arts (BA) Level 300 students, Mary Oduro Bibiana and Michael Asiedu Amponsah have been given grade "Z", which is fail, and banned from taking any of the University's examinations for a period of two academic years.

Bibiana and Amponsah may rejoin the University at Level 300 during the Second Semester of 2001/2002.

Two other students, Timothy Addae Adivilah and Victor Akanzabe Atanga have been reprimanded for failing to submit answer scripts after writing a paper in the Study of Ghana Politics.

The University warned them of severer punishment should they repeat the offence.

The newsletter said the dismissals are without prejudice to any criminal procedures that the Police may institute against the affected students.

The University expressed gratitude to the public for providing it with vital information to assist in weeding out criminals from the institution.
