University of Education Winneba re-opens

The University of Education, Winneba has re-opened after a short closure.

This was contained in press statement signed by the Registrar, C.Y. Akwaa-Mensah.

All campuses in Winneba, Ajumako, Kumasi, and Asante-Mampong are to resume activities.

It would be recalled that authorities of the institution shut down the school following a writ filed against the institution.

According to authorities, the university was sued at the Winneba High Court in connection with the writ filed by one Supi Kofi Kwayera, represented on Tuesday, 13 June, 2017 in court by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, challenging the legality of certain actions taken by the then-Governing Council of the university.

Subsequent to the writ heard on Tuesday, the judge ruled that the reliefs sought by the plaintiff should be upheld pending the determination of the case on Friday 16 June, 2017.

The university authorities said the decision was taken as a result of implementing the judge’s directive that the principal officers of the university be restrained from working until Friday, 16 June, 2017 and also the fact that other management members, Principals, Deans, and Deputy Registrars were appointed by the Councils whose authority are being challenged.

However, the university has rescinded its decision and school activities are supposed to return to normal.
