University of Cape Coast Holds Matriculation

Cape Coast, (Central Region) 16 Nov. The University of Cape Coast (UCC) is to mount tight security at the University's library to check students who have been mutilating the library books. Prof. Samuel Kwesi Adjepong, Vice Chancellor of the University who announced this at Cape Coast yesterday said reports reaching his office indicate that some students have been mutilating library books to the disadvantage of the University and warned that anybody caught will be dealt with drastically. He was speaking at a matriculation ceremony of the University during which 2,700 students were admitted to pursue various courses. Prof. Adjepong explained that the number admitted, the highest so far, is to enable the University to cater for the backlog of students. The number is made up of 'A' level 1995 and 1996 candidates, SSS 1995 candidates, mature and Post-Graduate students. Prof. Adjepong advised the students to be polite in their language when communicating their grievances, stressed that the University would not allow the clock to turn back on it and to return to the dark period in its history when it was labelled by the public as the "UNIVERSITY OF CONSTANT CONFUSION". He warned that students and other members of the University who incite confusion and violence would be summarily dismissed. Prof. Adjepong announced that the institute of education of the University would soon amount an extra-mural programme to take care of some of the qualified candidates who could not gain admission to the regular on-campus programmes this year.
