‘Unfortunate’ attitude of Ken Agyapong shouldn’t be allowed to fester – MP

A ranking Member of the privileges committee of Parliament, Mathias Kwame Ntow, has described as “unfortunate,” the attitude of the Member of Parliament for Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong.

Speaking on 3FM’s Sunrise morning show Tuesday ahead of the committee’s sitting to examine the evidence against Mr. Agyapong, Mr Ntow said the firebrand NPP MP’s attitude should not be allowed to continue.

Mr. Agyapong is alleged to have insulted Parliament. He reportedly described Parliament as “useless” for having Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu as its Majority leader on his Accra-based Net2 TV.

Again, he described Muntaka Mubarak as dumb for referring him to Parliament’s Privileges Committee over the purported insult.

But the Assin Central MP contended his comments were taken out of context

“Honourable Kennedy is one of the people that I don’t know how to describe him,” Mr. Ntow told host of Sunrise, Winston Amoah, adding he “thinks that he has every evidence, he has everything, every information on every Ghanaian or every Member of Parliament in this country.

Such posture, he observed is “unfortunate,” adding if we cannot wash our dirty linen in the public”.

He disagreed with the host that his comments about Mr. Agyapong was prejudicial to which he ought to recuse himself from being part of the committee to examine the evidence.

“I’m sorry we are taking to that level, this is not what I actually mean but we are aware; all of us are aware in this country what my good friend always does if an issue pops up. That is a fact, everybody knows it in this country”, he said.

The Aowin MP, however, indicated the first sitting of the committee will primarily be to examine evidence against the Assin Central MP after which he will be required respond.

Meanwhile, he said considering that the matter is of public interest, the sitting will be done publicly.
