President Mahama has assured the country’s unemployed nurses that they would all be employed soon.

The nurses on Wednesday hit the streets to express their displeasure and gave government a two week ultimatum to provide them with jobs.

President Mahama who is in the Brong Ahafo region with his “Accounting to the People” tour said government was not freezing jobs in the Health and Education Sector due to the expansion in infrastructure in those sectors.

According to President Mahama, expansion ongoing in those sectors will require more services to fill in the gap.

“We are in the process of recruiting bonded nurses…so that process is ongoing. Even by virtue of building more health facilities we are creating more space to absorb them.

“Every year financial clearance is given for the number of nurses based on a survey of what the need is and so every year we take in those nurses but I have asked that we give priority to the nurses who are trained in public institutions.

“We are expanding the health sector as quickly as we can and as we expand the health sector we will continue to absorb more nurses. We have a net freeze on the Civil Service and the Local service but we don’t have a freeze on the health and education sector,” President Mahama said.
