Unemployed jailed 24 months for stealing

Tema, Aug 1, GNA - The Tema Circuit Court 'A' presided over by Mrs Laurine Owusu, has sentenced a 22-year-old unemployed man to 24 months imprisonment for stealing properties worth over GH¢9,000 belonging to his former employer. Ebenezer Patey is to serve the sentence concurrently on two counts of unlawful entry and stealing.

Chief Inspector Adolphous Otchere, prosecuting, told the court that Patey, who was convicted on his own plea of guilty to the two charges, was a house help at Mr Allan Okomang-Mensah's Sakumono residence for three years until his dismissal in December 2007 for allegedly stealing the items. He said from the day Patey was dismissed, Mr Okomang-Mensah had lost items such as mobile phones, digital camera, laptop computer and jewelleries from the house.

Prosecution said the complainant on June 6, 2008 asked some men to watch over the house when the he and the family went to Church. Later he said, Patey was spotted opening the main gate with a key at about 0700 hours and was arrested in the process. He said when interrogated, the laptop computer and the Samsung mobile phone were retrieved from a buyer at Madina and Patey was handed over to the Sakumono Police together with the duplicate key.
