Mpraeso, (E/R) July 18, GNA - The Mpraeso Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Kwaku Osei, has sentenced Kwadwo Anim, a 24-year old undertaker to five years imprisonment in hard labour for stealing GHC 300.00 belonging to a hairdresser.
He pleaded guilty to attempting to steal and stealing.
Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Alex A. Yirenkyi said the accused was a friend of the complainant, Hannah Nyarkoa, who owed a hairdressing saloon at Kwahu Asakraka.
He said on June six this year, the accused who had been visiting the complainant at her saloon visited her at about 1900 hours.
ASP Yirenkyi said the accused then asked the complainant to go and buy him kenkey from the road side and she obliged and left the salon under his care.
He said when the complainant returned the accused was nowhere to be found and when she waited for a while and he was not returning, she decided to take her daily sales she had kept behind one of the dressing mirrors.
But to her surprise, GHC 300.00 of the revenue was missing.
ASP Yirenkyi said the complainant suspected the accused and went to his house to collect the money but he denied any knowledge about it.
He said the case was reported to the police and the accused was arrested.
In his caution statement he admitted the offence.
ASP Yirenkyi said when the room of the accused was searched GHC80.00 was retrieved from him.
The judge, therefore, sentenced the accused to five years imprisonment in hard labour.
