Under NPP, Ghanaians now wear mask to cover our shame – Koku Anyidoho

Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) Koku Anyidoho has said Ghana’s otherwise good image on the international scene has gotten to an all-time low under President Akufo-Addo following the unprecedented corruption cases that have been recorded during this regime.

According to him, the situation is so dire that Ghanaians have to walk around wearing a mask to cover their shame.

Mr Anyidoho made the comments on the back of the latest investigative piece by ace journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas which centered on corruption in Ghana football where highly respected officials were caught receiving bribes to bend the rules of the game.

The President of the Ghana Football Association has been charged by the police for fraud after using the name of President Akufo Addo to extort monies from supposed investors.

Over 100 referees and other football officials were seen taking cash before games with the intention of manipulating the outcomes of these games. Many Ghanaians who watched the documentary focused their attention on GFA President, Kwesi Nyantakyi.

Speaking to host Kweku Owusu Agyei on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa FM Thursday, Koku Anyidoho stated that the rot in Ghana’s football which has been uncovered adds up to the rising number of corruption cases which are recorded almost on a daily basis under the less than two years Akufo Addo administration.

According to him, corruption has infested the NPP government to a level that has become an embarrassment.

“This is how low Kwame Nkrumah’s Ghana has sunk, President Akufo-Addo wanted to sell it for $20million to the US, such disgrace to this country. Today, when you’re a Ghanaian and walking around you have to search for mask like that of Anas to cover our shame because we’ve been so much disgraced as a people under President Akufo-Addo.

“Uneasy is the head that wears the crown, in the past ex Presidents Rawlings, Mills, Mahama were all bashed and insulted, the NPP at the time thought that was fun, we have not insulted anyone, we’ve had to talk about the one-day one-scandal, one-day one-corruption under President Akufo-Addo.

If today the President says he’s sacked some CEOs of public institutions, that’s fine, the NDC has been vindicated, Civil society organizations have been vindicated. The President is acting out of desperation and not that he’s listened to the calls of Ghanaians.”
