Uber has taken a ‘drastic’ action against a driver who allegedly assaulted a rider by removing him from the app.

The driver, only identified as Nana with car registration number GS8560-17 is reported to have beaten up a female rider to pulp due to a misunderstanding over Uber fare discount.

Condemning the incident in a short statement, spokesperson for Uber West Africa described the driver’s actions as “regrettable” indicating that the matter is being investigated.

According to the statement, the embattled driver has breached Uber’s community guidelines and policy by assaulting the rider, hence the decision to discontinue working with him.

“Violence is not tolerated on the Uber app, and the driver has been removed from the app while we investigate the matter. Uber will be on hand to assist local law enforcement in their investigation,” Uber noted.

“This is a regrettable and concerning incident and we have reached out to the rider to offer our support,” the statement further reveals.
