UTAG meets today to consider calling off their strike

Striking University Teachers are scheduled to meet later Monday to consider calling off their strike or not following an appeal from President John Mahama.

The president, last week, called on the University Teachers Association Ghana (UTAG) members to return to work whiles their grievances are being resolved.

They embarked on the industrial action to protest the non-payment of their market premium arrears. That has, however, been paid but they want government to pay their book and research allowances too, before they end their strike.

Dr. Anthony Simmons, President of UTAG, said he will inform the members of the association about the president's plea, but wasn't certain the strike would be called off.

"The father of the nation has appealed, what do we do? Let's take it into consideration," he stated.

Dr Simmons called on all to exercise patience and wait till the scheduled meeting ends for them to determine whether or not to call off the strike.
