US citizen busted for fraud

Accra, Oct. 3, GNA - The Police has arrested an American Citizen for defrauding a Ghanaian of 1,500 dollars under the pretext of securing a visa for him to visit the United States. Rodney Wilson, the American, who claimed to be an Immigration Specialist, lured one Adams of Accra to part with the money under the pretext of securing him a US visa.

Briefing Ghana News Agency, Mr Ken Yeboah; Head of the Commercial Crime Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Friday, said the Police was informed that Rodney Wilson, a Director of Immigration Company, based at Osu had defrauded the unsuspecting customer. Mr Yeboah said the suspect was given a bail on Thursday but was brought back to the Police by those who bailed for the fear that if he escaped they would be held responsible. Mr Yeboah said so far there had been only one complainant but the Police suspected that there might be other victims. He appealed to anyone, who might have fallen victim to Rodney to come forward. He said, even though, the suspect had refunded the money, the Police would on Monday put him before court and charged with defrauding under false pretence.

Mr Yeboah said the CID was yet to establish from the Immigration Service whether the suspect, who has been in the country for the past three months, had a working permit. He said they were also checking from the Registrar General's Department whether the company of which he is a Director was properly registered. He said the other two members of the Company, a Ghanaian and a Nigerian are also assisting with the investigations.
