US-based lecturer donate books to Larterbiokorshie schools

Accra, July 27, GNA - Mr Jerry Oku, a New York (NY)-based Ghanaian lecturer, on Tuesday donated 1,000 books to Da Awatul Islamic School and Larterbiokorshie Primary 912' and 913' Schools at Sabon Zongo in Accra.

The books, mainly on social science, literature and social studies, worth GH¢3,000.

Mr Oku appealed to parents to send their children to school to enable them to acquire skills and knowledge needed for national development.

He called on individuals and organisations to support communities to improve the standards of education in schools.

Miss Jane Oku, Assembly Member for Sabon Zongo Electoral Area in Accra, who received the books on behalf of the schools, advised school children learn hard to enable them to pass their education.

Miss Oku advised the school children to visit the library to improve upon the learning.

She commended the teachers for their hard work and appealed for the rehabilitation of schools in the area.

She advised the people to desist from using school compounds for anti-social activities which affected teaching and learning.

She said attempts by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly to stop squatters from using the schools for illegal activities have failed and appealed to the Assembly to fence round the schools.
