US ambassador calls on IGP

The United States Mission in Ghana has pledged its support for the Ghana Police to enable the Service provide adequate security for this year’s general elections.

This was conveyed by the US Ambassador to Ghana, Robert Porter Jackson, last week when he paid a courtesy call on the Inspector-General of Police at the Police Headquarters in Accra.

Their discussion centered on four main areas, namely, Election Security, Terrorist Activities in the sub- region, Human Trafficking, and Drug Trafficking.

In his briefing, IGP John Kudalor told the ambassador that the Police was not leaving any stone unturned in its bid to ensure a peaceful election.

He assured his guest that a special taskforce called National Election Security Task Force has been put in place to take care of all aspects of security of the polls, adding that he had instituted the IGP’S dialogue series, whereby the Police meets with the various stakeholders of the election to brainstorm on the best ways to deliver the election peacefully.

Mr Jackson also assured the IGP of the support of the United States in the areas of training and provision of logistics.

The two also pledged to co-operate to fight terrorism, human trafficking and drug trafficking, with the U.S proposing to assist the Police in training, financial resources and other logistics.

Meanwhile, the ambassador praised the Police for its performance in crowd control, and also expressed his gratitude to the IGP for protection for the mission in its operation.
