US Naval ship docks at Sekondi

Sekondi, April 18, GNA - USS Emory S Land, a United States Naval Ship, arrived at the Western Naval Command at Sekondi on Monday for a five-day visit.

Captain Tom Rowden, a senior US Naval Officer, announced this when he called on Mr Philip Kwesi Nkrumah, Shama-Ahanta East Metropolitan Chief Executive on Tuesday.

He said it was the ship's third visit to Ghana and that the crew and the Western Naval Command would undertake joint exercises and training during the visit.

Captain Rowden said the professional skills of the Ghana Navy were as good as that of the US counterparts.

He said both sides should, therefore, co-operate to keep the ocean safe, secured and free from illegal activities.

Captain Rowden hoped the visit would cement the bond of friendship between Ghana and United States and afford US Naval personnel the opportunity of gaining better understanding of Ghana and the people. Mr Nkrumah spoke of the rich mineral resources in the Western Region and the region's contribution to the national economy.
