US Embassy supports Muslim orphans in Kumasi

Kumasi, Sept. 13, GNA - The United States Embassy has donated food items worth thousands of Ghana cedis to 58 Muslim orphans and less privileged attending school in Kumasi.

They included bags of rice, quantities of edible oil, bags of sugar, packets of Lipton tea bags and assorted fruit drinks. Mr Brian Shukah, Political Chief Executive (PCE) at the Embassy and the leader of the team said it was part of the programmes of the Embassy to contribute to the welfare and development of children. He said it had became an annual ritual during Ramadan since 2002 to visit and show love, compassion and kindness to Muslim children in selected communities in the country.

It was also to enhance the cordial relationship between the United States of America and Muslim communities around the world, to debunk the criticism that it was against Islam.

"Let us all accept to share in the responsibility of catering for the unfortunate ones in the society," he added. Sheikh Ahmed Seidu, Executive Secretary of the Council of Ulamau in Kumasi, said the donation has come as a relief to the children. He thanked the Embassy for initiating the programme during Ramadan and hoped that it would continue to strengthen the relationship between the Embassy and Muslims in Ghana.
